Captain's Day
18 July 2025

One of the highlights of the Society season is Captain's Day and this year Captain Michael Billson took us to Rothley Park in Leicestershire.

This was the Societies first visit and the 85th course the Society has visited since being formed in 1991.

28 players took to the first tee after all receiving a gift bag from the Captain. With the recent dry weather there was plenty of run on the fairway but the greens were proving rather tricky.

With the Great Central Steam railway running along side it was certainly picturesque for the golfers struggling in the heat and humidity.
At the conclusion of play and after an excellent meal Fines Master Graham Flint was in fine form[time his pen ran out of ink] to penalise any misdemeanors.
It was time for the Captains speech and prize giving to the days successful players.

It was Rob Wilson who constructed a score of 38 points and his first ever Society victory. It was very apt as Rob's company JCB [TC Harrison] sponsored the event. Runner up a point behind was Adi Kitchinson with 37 points with a superb 23 points on the back nine. With these two recently turning to a three and four day working week respectively has given them time to practice and certainly paid dividends to there games.

Third place went  to Lee Hayward also with 37 points with both Ian Waite and David Thorpe a shot further behind.

With Robs victory he became the Societies 63rd different winner in the Societies 35 years.

Nearest the pins went to Gary Benson, Aiden Mahon, Brian Giles, Martyn Lynes and the usual bottle of claret for David Thorpe. Two balls we achieved by Steve Leachman and Dave Thorpe.

The team prize went to Captain Michael,  Neil Houghton, Rob Wilson and Steve Leachman.

The Society would also like to thank Code Ease who through there kind generosity made it possible to play on one of Leicestershire's Premier Courses.

Thanks also to Michael for arranging a memorable Captains Day.
